After a good meal, what could be better than a digestive liqueur? These after-dinner drinks facilitate and accelerate the digestion process. They are served after the end of the meal, usually even after coffee. And their high alcohol concentration means that they are served in small glasses: don’t overdo it! The feeling of satisfaction they produce is due to the high concentration of sugar they contain.<\/p>\n\n

Drinking liquor before or after meals?<\/h2>\n\n

It is a matter of taste, but also of culture. In Italy, for example, it is very common to drink an aperitif before meals (to stimulate the appetite), and then a digestive at the end of the meal (to facilitate digestion).<\/p>\n\n

The main difference between the two lies in their alcohol content: while an aperitif has a lower alcohol content (around 15%), a digestive has a higher alcohol content (between 20% and 40%).<\/p>\n\n

As far as Spain is concerned, our culture is very similar to that of Italy, as is the case in other Mediterranean countries.<\/p>\n\n

For example, it is very common in Spain to consume an aperitif of liquor before a meal, such as Vermouth.<\/p>\n\n

This is ideal to have a conversation beforehand and to whet the appetite.<\/p>\n\n

During the meal we could continue with a white or red wine (following the grape base), and then close the meal with an after-dinner liqueur.<\/p>\n\n

There are many types of liqueurs and, obviously, there are different colors for different tastes, but at Degrados we would like to recommend some of them which, apart from having the alcohol content of a liqueur, have beneficial digestive properties in this process.<\/p>\n\n

As for after-dinner drinks, it is very common to have a coffee with liquor (such as cognac, brandy or whiskey), or to drink a digestive liqueur such as An\u00eds del Mono (Monkey’s Anise).<\/p>\n\n

There are many types of digestive liqueurs: some are made with herbs, others with fruits and others with spices. But the best component for good digestion is herbal.<\/p>\n\n

The properties of these liqueurs are very beneficial for the stomach, and help to alleviate several digestive problems. In addition, they have a relaxing effect that helps us sleep better.<\/p>\n\n
